I jacked up the whole rear of the truck and put jack stands under the frame away from the rear axle. This way i could support the axle with a floor jack and give me plenty of room to lower the axle to remove the coil srpings without using any spring sompressors....
Unbolt the shocks....lower the axle SLOWLY until all tension is off the coil springs and they can be removed by hand....you may have to increase the height of the jackstands several times until you get enough clearance to allow the coils to be removed....BE CAREFUL working under the truck...I
Take the coils out and install the new ones...I couldn't lower my axle enough to install the new springs, so i had to use some coil spring compressors i rented from AutoZone...Compress the coils, install them, then i slowly raised the axle till the coils were lined up and snug, then i removed the compressors... Be sure to line up the tabs on the spring perches with the cut off ends of the coils...
Raise the axle slowly and check that the coils seat properly...i jacked the whole truck up off the jack stands and removed them...then lowered the truck to the ground and installed the shocks...
